IL Governor’s Conference on Travel & Tourism

02.25.14

Earlier this month Dean La Velle, who handles our Business Development, was a judge of the Illinois Excellence in Tourism Awards at the Illinois Governor’s Conference on Travel & Tourism. This was the second year Dean was selected to judge submissions from DMOs (Destination Marketing Organizations) statewide.

While its an honored to be asked to judge these awards, it’s also an incredible opportunity for Dean to learn (and pass along to our team) about the various ways that print, digital, and video are being to used to market Convention & Visitors Bureaus, Main Street organizations, cities, and regional communities.

Submissions were from every area of Illinois, east-west-south-Chicagoland… and in two broad budget categories: over $500k annually and below.

What was particularly interesting was what could be done (and done extremely well) by the lower-funded DMOs. Just as working within limitations (think sonnets, haikus, or computer code) in other fields forcing innovation and original thinking, so too does working with limited budgets.

Some of the best submissions came from DMOs with small budgets but open and creative minds. And these are just the folks to learn from…

All of us at Rokusek Design are proud of having one of our own selected to judge these prestigious awards. We think this a positive reflection of the work the entire team does for all of our clients.
